Tsubasa Ozora and his family go to live to Nankatsu City When Tsubasa enters Nankatsu, he meets up withGenzo Wakabayashi, the invincible goalkeeper from Shutetsu: nobody, with any kind of ball (even a baseball!), has never scored him. But Tsubasa proving him doubt does, with a pass from Roberto Hongo who becomes his particular coach.
That year, like the others, there's a tournament between the two most important schools in the city: Nankatsu, and Shutetsu. The winner will go to the Japan National Tournament. Just after the second half, a new player appears: Taro Misaki, who will form the Golden Combination with Tsubasa. However, the match ends 2-2, so they will mix up the two teams and other 3 school teams of Nankatsu City, which will be called Nankatsu, as the city.
Nankatsu enters the Japan Tournament. Its stars are Tsubasa, Genzo and Misaki. However, Genzo gets injured in his leg and can't play in the tournament unless his team reaches the final. So the tournament begins. In the tournament they'll meet great players like the Tachibana brothers, who do some acrobatic scoring moves. They also meet team Meiwa, where Kojiro Hyuga, an extremely rude player, and Sawada, his mate, plays. Who will be the champion ??
