Character Profiles

Kirika is one of the main characters in the story. She and Mireille Bouquet meet in episode one after Kirika sends Mireille a message inviting her on a pilgrammage to the past with her. Mireille, half out of curiosity, and half out of intrigue, goes to meet Kirika. Kirika identifies herself only by her student ID, but has no real recollection of her past. She gives Mireille a pocketwatch that plays a creepy music box-like tune that reminds Mireille of her past. The two team up as assassins in a search for Kirika's past, and in search of answers to Mireille's confusion. Kirika is a quiet and thoughtful girl with mousey brown hair and soft, unassuming eyes. She is very quiet, and she is confused about her emotions, as well as her memories. Her weapon of choice is a gun, but she can use anything to kill people with. According to Hobby Japan magazine, Kirika is between 16-18 years old.

Kirika identifies herself early as Noir to Mireille, but the more they investigate into her past, the more they find out about the organization behind her, as well as the organization responsible for the murder of Mireille's parents.

Kirika finds out that she is part of the organization, Soldats, and that she is one of two maidens of death: Noir. Before discovering that Noir was, in fact, part of Soldats, Kirika and Mireille assumed the identity of Noir. However, it is later revealed that Mireille and Kirika are two of three inner trees for the position of Noir (The third being Chloe).  The missions Mireille and Kirika are sent on are actually trials organized by Soldats to test their worthiness of becoming True Noir. Kirika begins discovering the emotions of kindness and understanding in the episode with the old man whose cat she takes care of. She almost seems remorseful when she kills him.

One of the biggest turning points in Noir is when Kirika remembers her past almost fully, and recalls that she was the one who murdered Mireille's parents as a child, by order of Althena. She does not know how to deal with this, and upon finding out, cries for Mireille to kill her, which Mireille does not do.  Kirika and Chloe have an interesting relationship. At first, she is cautious and distrustful around Chloe. However, as time goes on, she begins working alongside Chloe and trusting her a bit more. She and Chloe eventually come together when Kirika makes her journey to the Manor to meet Althena for the first time in many years. As Kirika goes to the Manor, she stops at a village. This is the village which guards the Manor, and every person who lives in this village is a Soldat. They all recognize Kirika and call her Noir: even the children. When the pided side of Soldats comes to destroy the village and kill Kirika, the village all bands together and defeats the attackers. Kirika makes her final journey to the Manor from this tiny village at battle. At the Manor, Kirika and Chloe prepare for the ritual to become Noir. They fight together with swords and such, but Kirika is the better fighter. Chloe looks up to Kirika, and had done so since she was a child. Kirika was the reason why Chloe became Noir. It is Kirika who kills Chloe with a fork she gave her at a tea party.

Mireille Bouquet is a beautiful young woman who lives in France. She is a renowned assassin throughout all of Europe. She meets up with Kirika because she is curious about what she has to say, and allows Kirika to live with her and assist her in her assassins as they search for the truth about Kirika's, as well as her own past. Mireille is very fashion conscious, and seems very trendy. She has a brand new computer and lives in a spacious penthouse apartment. She has a laptop computer, as well. Mireille's hometown is in Corsica. She had rich parents who died when she was very young, and it seems she carries that prestigious attitude and the ideals of wealthiness with her in current life.  Mireille's choice weapon is the gun. She is a sharpshooter and is very good at what she does. Together with Kirika, she takes on the code name Noir. According to Hobby Japan magazine, Mireille is 20 years old.

Mireille was a daughter of a rich and powerful family. Her family was brought to power by Soldats, but when Soldats wanted Mireille to be a candidate for Noir, her parents defied them and were assassinated for protecting their daughter. Mireille grew up without this knowledge and only fragements of memory until she met Kirika. She agrees to "go on a pilgrimmage to the past" with Kirika, provided that she can kill Kirika when the truth was revealed. Mireille is one of three inner trees competing for one of two positions: Noir. The other two inner trees are Kirika and Chloe. Mireille, however, does now know that she is one of the aforementioned inner trees until much later in the series. When she meets her uncle, she learns that her parents were part of Soldats, and that her brother took her away from Corsica so that she would not be taken with Soldats. She is shocked to learn that he is also a Soldat, and has to kill him before he kills her or Kirika. It is speculated that he is against Althena and the Grand Retour, so his task was to kill Kirika so that Mireille would become Noir with Chloe.

Mireille does not kill Kirika for some reason when she finds out that Kirika killed her parents. Rather, she let Kirika go to the Manor and vowed to later find her. She meets a man who is a higher-up Soldat. He tells her the truth about her being a candidate for Noir, and asks her to go to the Manor and kill either Chloe or Kirika, and become Noir. She agrees to it, but only because she had her own motives. Mireille meets up with Kirika and Chloe, and the three of them get into a fight. Kirika and Mireille run through the Manor courtyard shooting at each other. They all come together in the middle of a parthenon (it looks like the greek Parthenon) type of building, and it is in that area that she and Chloe begin to fight. Just as Chloe is about to kill Mireille, Kirika kills Chloe.

Chloe is a very mysterious character. She is a very, very skilled killer and introduces herself as True Noir, which leave Kirika and Mireille both speechless. They believe that Chloe is somehow affiliated with Soldats. Chloe prefers to kill with throwing knives. Whenever Kirika and Mireille see Chloe, they immediately do not trust her and stay on guard, just in case.

Chloe identifies herself earlier on as True Noir. She is a flawless killer, and moves like a shadow. She is closely affiliated with Althena and actually lives with her at the Manor.

Despite being a coldblooded killer, she is very cute and outgoing. She takes her brutal job very lightheartedly. She became Noir because she admired and loved Kirika. It can be debated that she actually has romantic feelings for Kirika, which would not be totally out of the question.

It is evident towards the end of the series that Chloe and Kirika lived together for a short time at the Manor, where Althena gave them the mission, or more specifically, gave Kirika the mission, to kill Mireille's parents and to possibly retrieve Mireille as the third inner tree.

Chloe takes a fork from her tea party with Kirika and Mireille at Mireille's apartment and treasures it as a present from Kirika. She never harms either of them (until episode 25, when she tries killing Mireille), and she feels excited about being Noir with Kirika and living with Althena.

Chloe was with Kirika when Kirika killed Mireille's parents. It would seem that she and Kirika had lived together when they were very young.

Chloe is very protective of Althena and looks up to her like a mother. She would do anything for Althena and would never go against her wishes.

Althena seems to be a member of Soldats, but Mireille and Kirika do not know a lot about her until late in the series. Althena lives in the Manor with Chloe.

Artena is one of the leaders of Soldats. Despite being in power and having seemingly good motivations, there is a large opposition to her ways. Her main objective is to initiate Grand Retour and restore Soldats to its former glory.

There is an episode where we see Artena walking through a barren wasteland dragging a teddy bear. It seems that she was walking through a war field. It is my belief that she wants good for all people, especially children.

She is a very soft spoken woman, and lives in medieval fashion, meaning no electricity, no modern conveniences, etc.

She is like a mother to Chloe, and is actually referred to as the Kind Mother who watches over.

She lives at the Manor; a place forgotten by time and not found on any map, and Chloe lives there with her. Artena is not afraid of death, and she is not afraid to send Chloe to do what she needs done.

She initiated Le Grande Retoure to avenge her past; to protect the children who needed protecting.
